CHESHIRE ROMP SUNDAY 8th JULY 2007 Following the success of previous years, South Manchester MGOC are pleased to announce details of this, our eighth run . The starting venue is once again The Whipping Stocks Pub, Over Peover, which is 3 miles south of Knutsford on the left-hand side of the A50. It is ideally placed for the M6 motorway and is a popular meeting place for over a dozen car clubs.The route comprises of a brief run though rural Cheshire before once again heading for the hills , into Derbyshire and the Dark Peak area , on country roads typically suited to your MG’s .You will sample spectacular countryside ,be able to enjoy the usual excellent selection of country pubs or picnic en route. Apart from the lovely villages of Hayfield and Castleton , you again have the option of visiting some notable places of interest . Firstly, there is the Chestnut Centre Conservation Park, with the rare opportunity to see otters , Scottish wild cats and pinemarten together with deer ,fox and owls Reduced entry fee of £5 per adult has been negotiated – usually £6 . Moving on you can take your pick of. a number
of caverns in the Castleton area – information sheets will be provided
on the day but you can look them up on the internet beforehand . There
is the ‘ Blue
John ‘ with it’s beautiful rare stone which is made up
into jewellery and other decorative items , and which is available to
purchase in the shop . As you enter Castleton you will find Peak Cavern and the Devil’s Arse on your right. Here too we have negotiated special rates both for entry to the Cavern and the attached Pay & Display Car Park . The normal fee is £6.75 but the rate applying to our entrants will be £5.25 or only £5 if we can guarantee 20 people will visit the cavern . Similarly , the Pay & Display Car Park costs £3 but there is a tear off section which if taken to the cavern will get you a refund of another £1 . Tours run on the hour from 10 am and up to 85 people can be accommodated at any one time . You will need to allow 1 hour for the tour . The run will terminate at Lyme
Park and Hall , where Pride and Prejudice was filmed . The entry fee remains at £18 per car and includes free tea/coffee at the start ( with the traditional bacon ‘ butties ‘ available for purchase to give you a good start to the day ) a rally plaque, tulip route book and free entry to the grounds of Lyme Park. To cap it all and for the second year running, we are hoping to arrange that photos of you and your car taken en route will be available for purchase at the finish . ( Did you get one of their superb mugs featuring your car last year ? An excellent memento of an excellent day ! There are different additional options for this years run ). The Cheshire romp is non-profit making , with all profits going to our nominated charity which is FRANCIS HOUSE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE . Thanks to your participation we raised £4293-96 over 2004/2005/2006. Come and join us once more and help our push over that elusive £5000 ! You will find an application form attached to
